Keith A. Fenton, 54, pleaded innocent to possessing a deadly weapon on school grounds Thursday after a deputy sheriff found an unloaded 1929 Russian pistol in his book bag.

Fenton was in the adult-education building Wednesday at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center.

Fenton, of Mosier Road, Girard, and Marshall Avenue, Champion, remained in the Trumbull County Jail on Friday afternoon in lieu of $3,500 bond. If convicted of the charge, he could spend up to a year in prison.

He was arraigned in Warren Municipal Court.

Deputy sheriffs and a Champion police officer were called to the school about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday after someone spotted the weapon in Fenton’s book bag. The school is adjacent to the vocational school, on Educational Highway. No ammunition was found.
