Haines hits game-winning shot as Lakeview slips past LaBrae

The Lakeview High gymnasium filled with jubilation as the crowd watched Austin Haines’ game-winning shot swish through as time expired.
The basket gave the Bulldogs their first win of the season, a 44-42 victory over LaBrae on Friday night. Deadlocked at 42, Haines scored his two points of the game. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Bulldogs (1-3) were paced by the 17 points of Elliot Metheny, who scored four of the team’s six three-pointers.
The Vikings (2-1) were led by John Richards with 12 points.
Niles 72, Jefferson 53
JEFFERSON
Bobby Marino had 14 points and Zack Bailey, Tyler Negro and Ray Russ each had 10 to give the Red Dragons (2-3) the win.
Corey Pine led the scoring for Jefferson (0-3) with 11 points and Johnny Knights had 10.
Liberty 58, Champion 40
LIBERTY
Jalen Mann scored a game-high 14 points, and teammate Brian Venable added 11 more for the winners.
The Leopards scored 19 points in the third quarter, and added 17 more in the fourth to put the game on ice.
Wes Weber was the leading scorer for the Golden Flashes with nine points. Matt Heiligenberg berg was right behind him with eight.
