Jamar Briscoe scored 14 points, fed Phil Jones for the go-ahead layup with 7.4 seconds left and Charlotte handed Tennessee its second stunning upset loss of the week. Cameron Tatum missed a desperation heave at the buzzer for the Volunteers (7-2), who have followed a blowout win over then-No. 3 Pittsburgh with losses to Oakland and Charlotte. Derrio Green added 13 points and the 49ers (5-6) overcame 30 percent shooting by using a zone defense that stymied the Volunteers into 35 percent shooting. Tennessee hit just 2 of 17 3-pointers and 2 of 7 free throws in a loss that will surely see them plummet in the rankings. Scotty Hopson scored 13 points for Tennessee.

Indiana 88, SIU-Edwardsville 54
BLOOMINGTON, IND.
Christian Watford scored 18 points, and Indiana’s defense held Southern Illinois-Edwardsville scoreless for almost nine minutes to open the game. Derek Elston added 14 points as Indiana (8-2) won its ninth straight home game and tied the second-largest victory margin of the Tom Crean era. Michael Messer had 15 points to lead SIU-Edwardsville (2-10), which has lost seven of eight.

Cardinal Mooney High graduate L.J. Sutton, a junior forward, scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for top-ranked Walsh (9-0), which trailed 14-7 early before pulling away. Senior Lamar Skeeter scored a game-high 24 for the Cavaliers.

Amber Harris and Ta’Shia Phillips each had a double-double, and Xavier extended the best start in its history. The Musketeers (10-0) struggled to score from the perimeter against the Lady Bulldogs (6-3), who came in with one of the nation’s top defenses, allowing 51.2 points per game. Harris took control midway through the first half and finished with 22 points.
