A city man is charged with public indecency after he admitted exposing himself to a 17-year-old boy, police said.

Frederick Schlayer, 69, of East Main Street, was charged Wednesday after police interviewed him and determined that on several occasions, he had exposed his genitals to the 17-year-old grandson of his neighbor.

He is to appear in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Schlayer lives in the upstairs portion of the duplex at the residence, and the victim and his 62-year-old grandmother live on the ground floor. They share a basement laundry room, where the offenses are alleged to have taken place, according to a police report.

The victim told police that over the period of several weeks, he was in the basement when Schlayer entered wearing a shirt and shoes but no pants or underwear.

He said that on Dec. 7, Schlayer entered the basement in the same manner, this time asking the victim if he would like oral sex, according to the report.

The victim told police he said, “No,” and then left the laundry room.

Schlayer told police he often walks around his apartment with no pants on because they’re “binding,” and he will go down to the laundry room naked from the waist down.

At first he denied asking to perform the sex act on the victim but later admitted it, the report stated.

The accused has no sex-crimes convictions, police said.
