Air Force reservists from the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station prepared 18 pallets with 47,500 pounds of humanitarian cargo destined for people affected by flooding and mudslides in Honduras on Friday.
An Air Force KC-10 aircraft arrived Friday morning at the Air Reserve Station to pick up the supplies gathered by the Mission of Love Foundation, based in Austintown, and deliver them to the communities of Santa Rita, Yora, Honduras.
Included in the airlift are hospital beds, medical equipment and supplies, wheelchairs, school supplies, school desks, Christmas presents for the children, shoes, computers, a piano and 8,000 pounds of corn for tortillas.
Kathleen Price, founder and director of Mission of Love, said in a press release that she is glad to aid families affected by the recent natural disasters.
“It doesn’t get much better than to be able to be of service to those in need,” Price added.
This was the 47th Mission of Love in which the 910th Airlift Wing has participated under the Denton Program, which allows private U.S. citizens and organizations to use space available on military cargo planes to transport humanitarian goods to countries in need.
The Mission of Love Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid to those in need worldwide, especially children.
Once the supplies arrive, they are used to build medical clinics and orphanages, administer medical treatment and serve people who need help, Price said in the release.
