Police: Woman tried to get inside Ohio baby ward

BARBERTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman accused of trying to get inside a hospital maternity ward has been charged with attempted kidnapping.

Lachana Williams, 20, of Akron was arrested Wednesday at Summa Barberton Hospital. Barberton police say nurses reported she was acting suspiciously. The hospital has declined to elaborate.

Summa Health System spokesman Mike Bernstein tells WJW-TV Williams also had tried to gain entry to the baby ward at Summa Akron City Hospital, earlier in the week. He says all hospitals in the area were notified.

Police say Williams never had any contact with a child.

She’s in the Summit County Jail on $250,000 bond. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
