Another radio station to flip format

YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown market lost one of its adult-standards radio stations this week when Cumulus’ WSOM-AM 600 changed its format to news/talk.
It will lose its remaining adult-music station before the end of the year. Clear Channel’s WNIO-AM 1390 will switch to an all-sports format beginning Dec. 27.
The new WSOM NewsTalk 600 is carrying syndicated talk shows, including Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and Dennis Miller, according to Ohio Media Watch, an Internet blog that reports on the state’s broadcasters. WSOM surprised its listeners Monday morning with its abrupt change. “I will miss our radio family who considered AM 600 WSOM an oasis in radio land,” said Gary Rhamy, the station’s morning DJ.
After WNIO flips its format, it will be known as The Sports Animal and will feature Fox Sports programing. The new logo and a countdown clock are on its website (sportsradio1390.com).
