No prison time for Ohio man convicted in ill wife's death

CINCINNATI (AP) — A judge has given probation to an Ohio man convicted of failing to care for his sickly wife found dead by authorities who say there was evidence she suffered from bedsores and maggots.

A Hamilton County judge today also ordered 65-year-old Darrel White of Cincinnati to receive in-patient psychiatric treatment at a Veteran’s Administration facility. White pleaded guilty last month to reckless homicide and failure to care for a functionally impaired person.

White’s 57-year-old wife, Jorene, was found on the floor of their home July 23. Authorities said she had debilitating arthritis and was bedridden.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the judge said Darrell White also was a victim. The prosecutor agreed with probation and says an investigation is continuing.
