TROY, Ohio

An Ohio woman has been found guilty of permitting child abuse in the death of her 8-month-old son who authorities say apparently had been bitten and possibly strangled before dying of multiple blunt-force injuries, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Tara Durig, 28, of Troy, was found guilty Monday after pleading no contest in Miami County Common Pleas Court in western Ohio, county Prosecutor Gary Nasal said.

Durig’s husband, 29-year-old Jason Durig, was found guilty last week of murdering their baby, Caleb, in July. Jason Durig also pleaded guilty to one count of child endangering.

A child-endangering count against Tara Durig was dismissed in a plea agreement, and she could get three to 10 years in prison, Nasal said.

A message was left Tuesday for Durig’s attorney, Steve Layman.

Nasal has said that Jason Durig faces a mandatory sentence of 15 years to life in prison at his Jan. 24 sentencing.

Tara Durig told the judge Monday that she has a “major learning disability” that causes her to “have trouble comprehending things,” the Dayton Daily News reported.
