City police are investigating an armed robbery at a North Main Street video store.

Police said a man with a bandanna covering his face walked into the Family Video store about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, displayed a gun to the clerk and demanded money. The man fled the store on foot. No one was injured.

Library closed

YOUNGSTOWN

The Greenford branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system has closed due to a heating problem. The branch closed Tuesday and will remain closed today.

YMCA dinner for retiring CEO

The Youngstown YMCA will have a testimonial dinner for Kenneth L. Rudge, retiring chief executive officer, on Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Gym of the Central Branch, 17 N. Champion St., in downtown Youngstown.

Holiday Showcase

The Art Outreach Gallery will have its first Holiday Showcase, a youth fine and performing arts fest, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Eastwood Expo Center.

Students from area high schools, dance studios, colleges and more will participate. Included are dance routines, dramatic interpretations and choral and instrumental music productions. Viewing areas will showcase student artistic demonstrations. Visual artists of all mediums will display, demonstrate and sell their art works.

Sheriff’s office gets recognition

The Mahoning County Sheriff’s office was one of the agencies recognized by the Beaver Township trustees at their Tuesday meeting.

The sheriff’s office activated the Child Abduction Response Team to help a toddler who had wandered away from his family in July. The trustees distributed plaques to all area agencies that responded, including the township dispatch, police and fire departments and Stat Medevac, which was the first agency to find the toddler, who was unharmed.
