Cold temps, winds follow snow in western Pa.


PITTSBURGH (AP) — Frigid temperatures and gusty winds are following the snow that moved through western Pennsylvania, pushing wind chills below zero and making for treacherous travel.

The National Weather Service says snow totals of 10 to 11 inches have been reported in higher elevations of southwestern Pennsylvania. A little over 11 inches of snow fell in the last 36 hours in Farmington, Fayette County and 10 inches fell in Pleasant Unity, Westmoreland County.

Amounts between 2 and 4 inches were reported throughout the remainder of the region.

Authorities blamed icy roads for a crash in Duquesne after a car careened into a home early Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

Hundreds of schools closed or delayed opening throughout western Pennsylvania today. For the morning commute, the temperature in Pittsburgh was 12 degrees, with winds that made it feel like minus-4.
