Adam Kagarise won the 300-meter dash and Samantha Hamilton won the mile run to help lead the Youngstown State men’s and women’s track and field squads at the Golden Flash Gala on Saturday at the Kent State Fieldhouse.

The Penguins had a strong first outing for the 2010-11 campaign. YSU athletes set numerous personal bests as well as cracked the school top-five and top-10 performance lists in many events.

Kaitlyn Griffith placed fifth in the shot put with a career-best toss of 13.53 meters.

Griffith’s throw was the third-longest shot put in school history. Teammate Alison Roth was seventh with a throw of 12.61 meters.
