YOUNGSTOWN
The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is announcing the Armstrong nominate-a-player honoree for the seventh annual Game of Hope Charity Basketball Classic.
The Game of Hope Classic is a charity basketball game that benefits chronically and/or terminally ill children so that they may have the experience generally afforded to healthy children.
The event is set for at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 at Beeghly Center on the campus of Youngstown State University with the teams being comprised of area celebrities, community leaders, dignitaries and media.
The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Its mission is the furtherance of charitable and financial support and volunteer services to and for chronically and/or terminally ill children on a local and regional level.
This award is given to the person who donates their time and effort to their respective community. That individual gets to participate in the basketball game on the same team as our leaders and notables. It is a way to give back to the community by recognizing their involvement through the work they have done in the community.
The game will be televised via tape delay at 8 p.m. Feb. 20 and will reach a viewing audience of nearly 1 million people. Check hopemv.org for channels.
If you would like to nominate someone for the award, go to the Hope Foundation website at www.hopemv.org and click the “Nominate-a-Player” link on the right side of the page and follow the instructions. All entries must be received by Dec. 23.
The game’s primary sponsors are Armstrong and Valley Home Health Care. Other sponsors are TV stations 27 First News and FOX Youngstown; WYTV and MyYTV; radio stations 95.9-FM KISS, 93.3-FM “The Wolf” and News Radio 570-AM WKBN; UAW Locals 1112 and 1714; NEOEA (North Eastern Ohio Education Association); Time Warner Cable and the Lamar Advertising Co.
