Salem mayor to run
SALEM
Mayor Jerry Wolford announced last week that he will seek a second four-year term in 2011. In a statement, he said, “As mayor, I feel I have been able to accomplish some very positive projects for the city during a very difficult economic period.”
Wolford said the city was able to get about 90 good-paying jobs by helping Chester Hoist move to Salem. The city also was able to get funds to demolish 36 uninhabited homes through the Neighborhood Stabilization Act. The mayor also helped the city restart its own health department instead of turning to the Columbiana County Board of Health for services.
The city also has been able to obtain two additional trucks for general use and snow removal. Wolford said he expects the city will have a street paving program in 2011.
