Pa. inmate convicted in killing of his cellmate

INDIANA, Pa.

A suburban Philadelphia man faces life in prison without parole after being convicted of strangling his cellmate in a western Pennsylvania jail earlier this year.

Jurors in Indiana County deliberated for about 80 minutes before convicting 20-year-old William Brown of Upper Darby of first-degree murder and aggravated assault Thursday. .

Brown was charged in the Feb. 28 strangulation death of 29-year-old Jayson Stewart of Arnold while the two were incarcerated in the State Correctional Institution at Pine Grove about 50 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Brown has been serving 20 to 40 years after being convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, criminal conspiracy and possessing instruments of crime during a botched robbery in 2008.
