Poland girls swimmers open season with a win
The Poland boys and girls swim team traveled to Alliance for their first meet of the season Nov. 29. The girls team beat earned a 101-59 victory, while the boys squad fell 103-26.
Becca Stewart took first place in both of her individual events, being first to the wall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.71, and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:54.11.
Junior Kayleigh Lavorini won the 100 free in 1:01.58 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.89. Stephanie Andrews won the 200 free with a time of 2:29.57 and Jaci Mullaly took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:21.15.
Adding second-place points in both of her events was Elise Hurtuk, completing the 100 free in 1:04.74, and the 50 free in 29.03. Other runner-up performances were Sarah Rubesa (200 free, 2:36.41), Chloe Queen (100 fly, 1:34.95), Kelly Kozicky (100 back, 1:26.82) and Sarah Comstock (100 breaststroke, 1:26.94).
Also contributing points to the girls total score were Mirhanda Henneman (third; 200 free, 2:42.30), Celia Melillo (third; 200 IM, 3:07.85), and Mullaly (third; 50 free, 29.57).
The medley relay foursome of Stewart (back), Lavorini (breast), Andrews (fly) and Hurtuk (free) took first place points with a time of 2:07.36.
In the 200 free relay, Henneman, Rubesa, Mullaly and Melillo took second with a time of 2:04.02. In the 400 free relay, Stewart, Hurtuk, Andrews and Lavorini easily won with a time of 4:17.15.
For the boys, senior Ian Harker won the 200 free with a time of 2:08.87.75 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.41.
Matt Robich took second in the 50 free with a time of 26.96, and third in the 100 back, touching the wall at 1:21.75. Sam Cowles contributed key points, placing second in the 100 free (1:01.95) and third in the 50 free (28.17.)
