Neighborhood food drive needs you

Last year, neighbors in the Orchard, Ida, Centenial, Hill, Second, Botsford, Outlook, Morse and portions of Water Street neighborhoods donated 241 pounds of food which was brought to the Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution by Christmas.

The volunteers smiled as they unloaded your donations into the storage facility and expressed sincere thanks for the donated contributions to feed our local hungry families.

This year, they are at it again. And they need your help.

You still have time to donate, but collection ends Wednesday. The neighborhood collection site is at the front porch of 35 Orchard Drive. The collection will be taken in for distribution soon, in time for Christmas.

Most needed non-perishable food items are canned vegetables, canned spaghetti and meatballs, soup, instant potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, dry beans, gravy, boxed stuffing, dry pasta, tuna fish, canned fruit, canned chili and beef stew.

Backpack items include pop top cans, microwaveable meals, fruit cups, snack cracker and juice boxes. Monetary donations can also be made via check to “Second Harvest Food Bank.”
