Canfield swimmers begin season with win

Neighbors | Submitted.The seniors psyched the swimming and diving team up for their first meet leading them in the team cheer at the Dec. 4 meet at YSU.The girls came in first place with the boys taking second behind Boardman.
The Canfield High School swimming and diving teams opened the season Saturday at Youngstown State against Wooster, Boardman and Warren G Harding.
The girls team won the meet with a score of 169, while the boys team took second behind Boardman.
On the girls’ side, the 200-yard medley relay team of Taylor Rodenbaugh, Olivia Williamson, Gia Velasquez and Mallory Allen took third place.
Hilary Allen placed second in the 200-yard freestyle. and Gia Velasquez won the 200-yard individual medley. Ally Chiu earned first place in diving and teammate Adrianna Oddo took second.
Mallory Allen placed third in the 100-yard fly and Williamson placed second in the 100-yard freestyle. Hilary Allen came in second place in the 500-yard freestyle.
Velasquez, Leslie Davis, Willliamson and Hilary Allen made up the third-place 200-yard free relay. In the 100-yard backstroke, Taylor Rodenbaugh came in third.
Velasquez took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with Williamson coming in second place.
Mallory Allen, Taylor Rodenbaugh, Leslie Davis and Hilary Allen took third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In boys’ action, Drew Wellham, Ryan O’Malley, Gavin Trebilcock and Mark Dalvin took second place in the 200-yard medley relay.
In the 200-yard free, Daniel Bogen took first and Nicky Montalto was third. Trebilcock earned a first-place win in the 200-yard individual medley. O’Malley placed second in the 50-yard free. In the 100-yard fly, Wellham took second place.
O’Malley came in second in the 100-yard free and Nicky Montalto placed second in the 500-yard free.
Daniel Bogen, Mark Dalvin, Nicky Montalto and Gavin Trebilcock made up the winning 200-yard free relay team. Wellham came in third place in the 100-yard backstroke and Trebilcock came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Nicky Montalto, Drew Wellham, Daniel Bogen and O’Malley took second in the 400-yard free relay.
