The Canfield High hockey team got down early and couldn’t recover against Greater Cleveland High, falling 5-2.

The Cardinals (0-7, 0-3) trailed 3-0 in the first five minutes of the game. But they battled the rest of the way. Roger Geiser stopped the last 33 out of 35 shots. Joe Geiser got the Cards on the board with an unassisted short-handed goal in the third period. And Ryan Ohara finished the scoring, assisted by Riley Emery.

The Cards take to the road Sunday at Bay Village.

Eastwood Mall to host charity event for dogs

The Eastwood Mall will host a fundraiser to benefit the Animal Welfare League on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The “Dawgs for Dogs” event will feature games and challenges for football fans as well as raffles and a chance to win tickets to a Browns vs. Steelers game.

Kings’ Evans cleared to play despite foot injury

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The Sacramento Kings say reigning Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans will be able to play though an inflamed arch on his left foot.

The team said Friday that an MRI the previous day showed that Evans’ plantar fascia is intact and he has no stress fracture.

Evans will continue his prescribed treatments of a combination of medication, sleeping in a night splint and walking in a boot when not playing or practicing. He has been cleared to practice and play.

Evans is struggling in his second season. He is scoring 17.1 points per game and shooting below 40 percent from the field.

Denver rookie arrested in sexual assault claim

CASTLE ROCK, Colo.

Police in a south Denver suburb say Broncos rookie cornerback Perrish Cox has been arrested for investigation of felony sexual assault.

Michelle Kivela, the public information officer for the city of Lone Tree, Colo., says Cox was arrested Thursday night following an investigation into an Oct. 28 incident. He was transported to a nearby county jail.

Broncos media relations director Patrick Smyth says the team is aware of the reports and is “currently in the process of gathering information and reviewing the facts.”

Cox has played in 11 games this season after being taken in the fifth round out of Oklahoma State.

Ailing Bills without tight end vs. Browns

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.

Bills tight end Shawn Nelson will miss his second straight game Sunday when Buffalo (2-10) hosts Cleveland (5-7) because of migraine headaches.

Nelson practiced on Wednesday, but was held out both Thursday and Friday after the problems surfaced again.

Starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams missed Friday’s practice because of a tight neck, but he will play. Coach Chan Gailey said defensive backs Terrence McGee (nerve behind knee) and Donte Whitner (knee) also should be able to go.

Injured Kansas City QB Cassel attends practice

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Two days after an emergency appendectomy, quarterback Matt Cassel attended the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice but didn’t participate

The Chiefs refused to say Friday if Cassel would be out on Sunday when they play at San Diego in an AFC West showdown.

Coach Todd Haley says Cassel, who is having a Pro Bowl-type season, would be listed as doubtful when the injury report comes out.
