Ohio woman gets 1-year prison sentence, then bolts from courthouse
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman upset over a one-year sentence for receiving stolen property ran from the courtroom, with no security officers in sight.
Authorities say 20-year-old Tierra Ward of Akron fled the Summit County courthouse Wednesday.
A warrant for her arrest was filed today.
She had been free on bond heading into the sentencing and no deputies were on duty in the courtroom.
Ward had pleaded guilty previously.
Sheriff’s Inspector Bill Holland says patrol units and a fugitive task force were notified. He tells the Akron Beacon Journal that more charges could be filed for fleeing.
