Neighbors | Submitted.Representatives from the Rescue Mission (back) collected canned goods brought in by Poland North's elementary students. Some of those students include from left; (front) third-grader Alyssa Jenkins, first-grader Dominic Klase, second-grader Addison Kaschak, third-grader Zachary Nemeth and kindergartner Sabine El Chammas.

Students of Poland North gym teacher Kristi Rider helped lift a burden for a few Valley families this holiday season.

Members of the class brought in canned goods as part of Rider’s focus on fitness this month. She wanted to incorporate how to live healthy and give generously at the same time.

The gym was set up with stations of all different kinds of exercise, including sit-ups, push-ups, plyometrics (box jumps) and jump rope.

One of the stations consisted of weight training. Students that brought in cans of food used them for bicep curls and then the cans were donated to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

Overall, the students brought in 212 canned items.
