Just hope for the best

Just hope for the best

Nothing is clearer in histo- ry than the adoption by successful rebels of the methods they were accustomed to deplore in the forces they deposed. — Will and Ariel Durant

“The Lessons of History”

That summary sentence strides a spectrum between pessimism and truth. Hope that the future decisions and actions of all newly elected officials tend to prove that is more pessimistic than truthful. If pessimistic, wish the victors well. If truthful, don’t hold your breath.

Make the criminals pay

If the county and city want to save money, then I propose that they contact our state representatives and have them change the law. When someone breaks the law and is arrested, they should be told: “You are under arrest. If you do not have an attorney, one will be provided to you. You and your parents will be responsible for paying your attorney. If you don’t have the funds to pay an attorney, any assistance that you receive will be attached until your attorney is paid.”

If the parents are liable for their children’s actions, maybe the parents will do a better job of keeping their children out of trouble. They can make it the parents’ responsibility until the child is 21.

This would surely save the county and the city a whole lot of money, which they can put toward improvements for the law abiding citizens that live here.

I would imagine that everyone is tired of having their tax dollars spent for attorneys to represent criminals.
