Niles chapter of sewing guild elects officers, honors member

On Dec. 4 the Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild met at Ciminero’s Banquet Center for a holiday party.
In addition to celebrating the season, the chapter elected officers, honored a member and completed a sewing challenge.
Elected and installed as leaders of the organization for 2011 were Jennie Roberts, president; Lynn Price, first vice president; Barbara Rosier-Tryon, second vice president; Diane Wittik, secretary; and Joan Dales, treasurer.
Virginia Hardman of Champion was named the Member of the Year.
Hardman, a member of the guild for 10 years, was recognized for her years of service in many offices and in chairperson positions.
Children’s sleepwear, sewn by members during a sewing challenge, was collected and will be distributed to Someplace Safe in Trumbull County and to Sojourner House in Mahoning County.
The speaker at the event was Di Matjevic, who presented a program on the “History of Aprons” and exhibited her collection of vintage aprons.
The Niles chapter is composed of nine neighborhood groups in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
