Students at Dobbins Elementary had an opportunity to finish their Christmas shopping Nov. 30, as they visited Santa’s Workshop in the school’s activity room.
Members of the PTO manned the store that featured items ranging from air fresheners to cooking utensils to dog toys and holiday ornaments. The price tags were all the same: $1.
Classrooms were rotated through the store during their scheduled library periods. Each student was given a holiday shopping bag for their gifts. They crowded the holiday decorated tables in search of just the right gift for their family and friends.
PTO members stood by to answer questions and lend a helping hand in choosing the perfect gift.
Poland resident Kim Rossi-Pallante, Santa’s Workshop chairwoman, said the group wanted to provide an affordable and convenient environment for students to purchase gifts.
PTO members purchased the items that were being sold and it wasn’t about turning a profit. The store was put together for the enjoyment of the students and to teach them about the spirit of giving.
Rossi-Pallante was grateful for the Poland parents’ willingness to help and the support they provide for the students. Since her daughter is moving on to fifth-grade next year, this is her final year at Dobbins, but she said she has enjoyed every moment of her time spent with the PTO and students.
“There is just a great support system from the parents here,” she said. “It is one of the best I have ever seen.”
