The community room and corridor near Dillard’s in the Eastwood Mall will be the setting Dec. 18 for “Dawgs for Dogs,” a series of competitions and contests for men, women and children.
The event is a fundraiser for the Animal Welfare League Care and Education Center.
There will be a raffle for a pair of tickets to the Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game on Jan. 2 in Cleveland. Fab Limousine will provide limousine service to and from the game for the winner.
The second-place prize will be Cleveland Cavalier tickets, provided by Briarfield Health Care Center.
Raffle tickets will be $2 each or six for $10. The names of the winners will be drawn at 9 p.m.
A 50-50 raffle and a basket auction also are planned.
There will be a children’s coloring contest for those 12 and under for a chance to win Happy Meals every week for a year from McDonalds. A children’s foam football challenge will be at 4 p.m., and at 5 there will be an all-around high school football challenge with winners receiving prizes and trophies.
Mall visitors can enjoy such spectator sports as watching wing-eating competitions between Browns and Steelers fans at 1 p.m. and again at 7:30. Fans of both teams will also have an opportunity to compete in best-dressed contests, team trivia and player-recognition competitions. Special contests for Browns fans will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by Steelers fans contests at 2:30.
Situated on eight acres of donated land, the care and education center will give Kent State University students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience through the veterinary technician program and in computer programming.
Available at the center will be such things as isolation wards, an outdoor pet park, kindness classes for children, dog obedience classes and a pet therapy program.
