YOUNGSTOWN

The United Boxing Club, under the direction of Sammy Calderon and in conjunction with matchmaker Chuck Nelson, will have a 17-bout amateur card Saturday at the ItalianAmerican Veterans Center in Youngstown.

Sanctioned by USA Boxing, the card starts at 7 p.m. and features the best amateur boxers from the Valley, as well as the rest of Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Nelson has also added three female bouts. The main women’s bout features a 178-pound fight between Pittsburgh’s Jaqua Lutz, a 2008 National Champion and two-time Pennsylvania state title holder, and nationally-ranked Alex Alexander of Toledo.

“We’re excited about this card because all of the fighters will get a chance to showcase their talents,” Nelson said. “It’s an excellent mix of boxers with three female bouts on tap as well. Each and every bout is expected to be very competitive.”

The co-main feature will pit the No. 1-ranked female in the state and No. 3-ranked woman in the world, Cashmere Jackson of Columbus, in a 145-pound bout with Samantha Griffith of Pittsburgh.

The two co-features include Anthony “Amp” Walls of Akron in a 145-pound match with Mike Goins of Columbus, and Sonny Fredrickson of Columbus, who will take on Royce McCormick of Akron in a 136-pound pairing.

Other local standouts on the card include Youngstown’s Julius Thomas, who will meet Angel Demangus of Toledo in a 143-pound event; Campbell’s Darrian Rivera who will go up against Josh Hines of Pittsburgh in a 185-pound match and Poland’s “Downtown” Paddy Brown who will take on Cleveland’s Niko Bonner in a 141-pound pairing.

Also, Youngstown’s John Gregory (155) and Walls (145) are boxers expected to fare well.

“The three female bouts are all evenly matched and are arguably the most competitive pairings in that division to date,” Nelson added.

The other two female bouts include Mikayla Nebel of Columbus taking on Jessica Dunlap of New Philadelphia in a 119-pound contest and Warren’s Autumn Hall, who will go up against Christy Lacy of Columbus in a 145-pound event.
