Springfield seeks funds to upgrade Rapp Road
NEW SPRINGFIELD
Springfield Township trustees agreed when they met Wednesday to apply to the Ohio Public Works Commission for Issue 2 funds to upgrade Rapp Road. They authorized Thomas Fok & Associates, Youngstown, to prepare and submit an application.
Road Superintendent Richard Kennedy said the work would consist of flattening the crown of the road between Middletown and Calla roads from 6 to 2 inches. He said the former slag road has an unusually high crown which causes the road to be slippery in rain and snow.
Several accidents have occurred there.
Trustees also agreed with Kennedy’s request to ask the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office how the township can ban on-road parking in snowy weather.
Also Wednesday, trustees agreed to pay Frontline of Boardman up to $5,000 for repair and maintenance on township firetrucks, authorized a $1,054 payment to Welsh Motors for emergency repairs to a police cruiser and set the reorganizational meeting for 10 a.m. Jan. 3 at the township building.
