Walgreens wants to extend hours for three nights

For the second year in a row, village officials are meeting to decide if a McKinley Way drugstore can offer extended holiday hours for shoppers.
Walgreens has requested approval from the village to stay open until midnight Dec. 17, 18 and 19. The store usually is open only until 10 p.m. per a 2004 agreement with the village board of zoning appeals.
Last year, the village permitted the store to extend its hours Dec. 22 through 24.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council members scheduled a village board of zoning appeals meeting about the request for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“No other businesses said anything about this, and I would recommend you do the same thing you did last year,” said Anthony D’Apolito, village solicitor.
Also next Tuesday, a public hearing for the new storm-water utility ordinance will begin at 7 p.m.
Both the board of zoning appeals meeting and the public hearing are at village hall, 308 S. Main St.
Ted Heineman of Nesbitt Street raised concerns over the new ordinance, including public access to the storm-water utility-fee records.
Linda Srnec, clerk- treasurer, said although a fee-collection agreement yet has to be reached with Aqua Ohio, the contract will have provisions that allow for the fee collection to be audited by the county and accessible to the public.
Council also noted that the village is responsible for clearing snow and ice off the sidewalk that runs along U.S. Route 224 near the post office, because a provision in the grant that paid for the project stated the village must maintain it. Village residents are required by an ordinance to remove snow and ice from sidewalks on their property “within a reasonable amount of time,” said Councilman Joe Mazur.
Council also expressed its gratitude to Jeff Vrabel Sr. of the Ohio Sons of the American Legion Squadron 15, who organized Flags Over Poland. New American flags now are on display at village hall.
