School records missing for suspected Ohio serial killer
CLEVELAND (AP) — Attorneys for a man charged with killing 11 women and dumping their remains around his Cleveland home are facing a big hurdle to review his school records.
East Cleveland school officials told the trial judge Tuesday that records for 51-year-old Anthony Sowell cannot be located.
The defense tells The Plain Dealer that East Cleveland school records back to the 1950s are stored in random order, some under a stage.
The judge says the defense must search the records if it needs them. Sowell goes on trial in February on aggravated murder charges.
The defense wants the records to detail any issues that might help spare Sowell from the death penalty if he’s convicted.
