Ohio Marine killed in Afghanistan

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A 25-year-old Marine from northeast Ohio has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.

U.S. military officials say in a statement that Cpl. Derek A. Wyatt of Akron died Monday while conducting combat operations in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

Relatives and friends tell media outlets that Wyatt’s wife is expecting the couple’s first child.

Wyatt was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force of Camp Pendleton, Calif.
