Lego robotics teams to vie in Trumbull tournaments

The Art Outreach Gallery and Northeast Ohio FIRST Robotics Alliance will host two FIRST Lego League Robotics Regional Qualifying Tournaments in Trumbull County.
Representatives from Warren G. Harding, Girard, Badger, Austintown Fitch and Champion high schools FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams and the Art Outreach Gallery organized the events in which teams will demonstrate problem-solving skills, creative thinking, teamwork, competitive play, sportsmanship and sense of community.
Top performers will qualify for the FLL Ohio State Championship Tournament in Dayton from Feb. 12 to 13.
Twenty teams will compete at the Warren G. Harding Regional on Saturday at Warren G. Harding High School in Warren.
Twelve teams will compete at the Badger Regional on Dec. 18 at Joseph Badger High School in Kinsman.
The events are open to the public. Admission is free.
Teams design and build autonomous Lego robots using Lego Mindstorms robotics kits. Teams build robots to perform missions and score points on a themed competition table.
In addition to robot performance, teams are evaluated in the categories of research-project presentation, robot design and programming and core values.
