Former student gives Ohio school $1.5M to honor prof
DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) — A former student thought his English professor was something special and has donated $1.5 million to an Ohio school to make that point.
The gift announced today by Ohio Wesleyan University will endow a professorship in honor of Charles Weis, who retired in 1985 after 27 years at the central Ohio school.
University President Rock Jones says in a statement that the donor’s wish is to inspire others to honor professors who have made a lasting impact on their lives.
Ohio Wesleyan says Weis was passionate about teaching and about helping students succeed.
Officials say the Charles M. Weis Professorship in English moves the university closer to its goal of adding 15 full-time faculty members.
