YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Police Department conducted a driving-under-suspension checkpoint Friday on the city’s South Side. The checkpoint resulted in 129 vehicles processed, 12 DUS arrests, seven vehicles towed, three drug arrests and two warrant arrests.

Student to face court

YOUNGSTOWN

A 16-year-old student at Chaney High School will face charges in juvenile court after striking a teacher in the face.

According to police reports, the female student refused to identify herself to hall monitors at the school Monday morning, and a teacher, who is not listed in the arrest report, came to intervene. Reports said the teacher attempted to identify the girl by looking in her locker for a name on a book.

Police reports say the student at first pushed the teacher, cursed at him and walked away. The student then returned and, according to police, punched the teacher in an eye.

The teacher took the student to the floor in a restraint hold, and she was held for police. The student was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

Man assaulted

WARREN

A 42-year-old city man suffered a broken arm and head injuries Monday afternoon after being assaulted by two men on Hoyt Street Southwest.

The man said one man hit him numerous times with a baseball bat, and the other hit him numerous times with a pipe.

Police were called about 3:45 p.m. to Warren West Community Health Center on Tod Avenue Southwest, where a doctor said the victim’s arm was fractured. An officer said the victim also had cuts above each eye. The victim was taken by ambulance to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Clothing giveaway

YOUNGSTOWN

Victory Lutheran Church, 2110 Glenwood Ave., will have a clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday. All are welcome. Recipients should bring bags for the clothing.

Committee to meet

Youngstown

Youngstown Board of Education’s finance committee meets at 4:30 p.m. today in the caucus room of the Irene L. Ward Building, 20 W. Wood St.

Intersection changed

NORTH LIMA

The intersection of New Buffalo and Renkenberger roads in Beaver Township was changed from a two-way stop to a four-way stop last week by the Mahoning County engineer’s office. New signs have been installed.
