Battle’s 3-pointer lifts Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.
Talor Battle hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left and Penn State defeated Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 57-53 on Tuesday night.
The 3 broke a tie at 53, and Battle scored a fourth point on a foul shot after the timeout.
Battle led the Nittany Lions (7-2) with 13 points and eight rebounds, and Jeff Brooks had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Mount St. Mary’s (3-6) was unable to come away with the win despite going on a 16-6 run to open up the second half, pushing the Mountaineers ahead of Penn State 38-37 with just more than 10 minutes remaining.
The game went back and forth, leaving the game tied at 53 with less than 30 seconds left.
Lamar Trice led Mount St. Mary’s with 16 points.
The Mountaineers are now 0-9 against Big Ten teams and 0-6 against Penn State since beginning Division I play in 1988-89.
“I just shot the ball with some confidence,” Battle said. “Thank God it fell.”
Iowa 51, Northern Iowa 39

Freshman Melsahn Basabe scored 14 points and Iowa moved past .500 for the first time this season.
Jarryd Cole added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who improved to 22-1 against the Panthers in Iowa City and won back-to-back games for the first times this season.
Iowa (5-4) turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 37-28 lead early in the second half. The Hawkeyes held Northern Iowa (4-3) to just two points in a six-minute stretch late in the second half, and Matt Gatens’ 3 with 2:53 left gave Iowa a 46-36 lead.
Jake Koch and Kwadzo Ahelegbe each scored 11 points for Northern Iowa, which was held below 50 points for the second time in seven games.
