Trial to begin for Chicago boy in fatal beating
CHICAGO (AP) — The trial is set to get under way in Chicago for the first of five suspects accused of beating a Fenger High School honor student to death.
Opening statements are scheduled today in the trial of a 14-year-old boy accused of attacking 16-year-old Derrion Albert.
Albert was beaten to death in September 2009 after leaving school in an attack that was captured on cell phone video.
The teen isn’t being identified because he is a juvenile. Four other suspects have been charged as adults and are awaiting trial.
