Teen girl in juvenile detention center for hitting Chaney High teacher

YOUNGSTOWN — A 16-year-old student at Chaney High School will face charges in juvenile court after striking a teacher in the face.

According to police reports, the female student refused to identify herself to hall monitors at the school Monday morning and a teacher, who is not listed in the arrest report, came to intervene. The teacher, reports said, attempted to identify the girl by looking in her locker for a name on a book.

Police reports say the student at first pushed the teacher, cursed at him and walked away. The student then returned and, according to police, punched the teacher in his eye.

The teacher took the student to the floor in a restraint hold and she was held for police. The student was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center. The teacher reported an injury to his hand in the scuffle.
