YOUNGSTOWN

Police found suspected marijuana growing in two separate homes after tenants moved out over the past weekend.

Police reports say the 68-year-old owner of a West Side home in the 2600 block of Burbank Avenue was cleaning out the house Friday afternoon after a 27-year-old man had moved out when he found the illegal drug.

The man told police he found six suspected marijuana plants growing in the home’s basement.

The homeowner called police to come and collect the plants, but before officers arrived at the house, the former tenant came to the residence and took them.

Officers found several empty plant pots in the basement as well as a trail of dirt leading outside.

The homeowner did take pictures of the plants before his former tenant removed the plants.

Police also are investigating the reported find Sunday afternoon of marijuana plants in a house in the 3600 block of Neilson Avenue on the South Side.

According to reports, the homeowners came to show the vacant house to prospective tenants and found the plants on a table not far from the stairway.

The owners also found one plant in a milk crate, covered basement windows and aluminum foil used to reflect neon light.

The homeowners told police a 34-year-old tenant lived in the home for the past year and moved out over the weekend.

Police took photos of the suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia before collecting the items as evidence. No arrests have been made.
