Ohio man sentenced to 10 years in arrow shooting

CINCINNATI (AP) — A judge sentenced a man to 10 years in prison today for trying to kill another man with a bow and arrow as he slept.

Harry Spivey pleaded guilty in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court on Nov. 15 to attempted murder. The judge gave him the maximum sentence.

Authorities have said Spivey, 58, shot his friend, Samuel “Doug” Stacey, three times on Sept. 7 with hunting arrows. Stacey, 50, was shot in the spine, the lung and the wrist.

Stacey, who let Spivey stay with him after Spivey lost his home, was sleeping when he was awakened to an arrow piercing his back and then was shot two more times, according to prosecutors.

Stacey, who pretended to be dead, said that Spivey kicked him after shooting him the third time and told Stacey he was going to leave him to bleed to death, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
