Dave Wallace to manage Scrappers in ‘11

Dave Wallace will make his managerial debut with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the Cleveland Indians have announced.
Wallace joins the Scrappers after spending the last two seasons as an assistant on the Major League coaching staff following a seven-year playing career at the minor league level.
Gregg Hibbard will serve as the Scrappers’ pitching coach after having the same role at Akron last year.
In Cleveland, Ross Atkins, the Indians’ vice president of player development, announced other staff assignments for the team’s 2011 player development system.
Mike Sarbaugh will return to manage the AAA Columbus Clippers, Chris Tremie will guide the AA Akron Aeros, Aaron Holbert remains at Kinston, Ted Kubiak returns to Lake County and Anthony Medrano will manage the Arizona League Indians.
Among field staff assignments for the 2011 season, Wallace will also assume the role of catching coordinator and Travis Fryman, who spent the last three seasons as the Scrappers manager, will serve as fielding coordinator.
Kubiak, a former Scrappers manager, returns to Lake County for his second campaign after leading the Captains to their first Midwest League title.
Also, former Mahoning Valley manager Rouglas Odor will be a coach with Cleveland’s Akron Aeros affiliate. Odor spent the 2010 season on the staff at Kinston.
Ken Rowe, who has been a pitching coach each of the last 20 years in the Indians’ player development system, will transition into a pitching adviser role for Atkins and the minor league staff.
