Fingerhut to address 750 YSU fall grads

YOUNGSTOWN

Eric D. Fingerhut, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, will receive an honorary degree and speak at YSU’s fall commencement Sunday at 2 p.m. in Beeghly Center.

Salvador Bolan, who will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education, will be the student speaker.

About 750 students will receive diplomas at the ceremony.

In March 2008, Fingerhut delivered Ohio’s 10-year Strategic Plan for Higher Education to the governor and Ohio General Assembly, which outlines strategies to make higher education more accessible, efficient and affordable.

Board names Martin program director

WARREN

The board of directors of Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership has chosen Matt Martin to fill the newly created position of program director. He started work Wednesday and becomes the partnership’s first full-time employee.

Martin, of Youngstown, has worked nearly five years in community development in Cleveland, as neighborhood-service provider and land-reuse manager with the Stockyard Redevelopment Organization.

He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cleveland State University.

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is a community-development corporation whose mission is to improve the quality of life for Warren area residents by enhancing neighborhood assets. It began with a grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation and is in the Huntington Bank Building on Main Avenue Southwest.

Pancake breakfast to feature Santa

CANFIELD

The Canfield Fire Women’s Auxiliary is having a pancake breakfast with a special guest.

The breakfast is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kenneth F. McMahon Hall at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46 in Canfield and will feature Santa Claus.
