ALLENTOWN, Pa.
An eastern Pennsylvania judge accused of “nasty, rude, erratic and strange” behavior in court says she is passionate on the bench but denies acting improperly.
Lehigh County Magisterial District Judge Maryesther Merlo has asked a state court to dismiss the complaint filed against her by the Judicial Conduct Board.
Last month’s complaint includes allegations that Merlo was frequently tardy or absent and once forced a defendant to admit he was a “scumbag.”
In a response filed Friday, Merlo’s attorney Sam Stretton said the judge “does not use improper language or curse words.” He says she took time off to campaign for re-election.
Stretton told The Morning Call of Allentown that he expects Merlo’s trial to take place in about three months.
