Wreaths for graves
CANFIELD
On Saturday , members of the Ohio State University Extension Master Gardeners Program, in partnership with Wreaths Across America Day, will place fresh evergreen wreaths at the grave sites of 32 veterans at Dean Hill Cemetery on Palmyra Road in Canfield. There will be a ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
This is the third year the master gardeners have put wreaths they purchased or prepared themselves on veterans’ graves, the last two at Zion Cemetery in Boardman, said David Goerig, county agriculture and natural resources educator for the OSU Extension office.
This year, Wreaths Across America, started by the Worchester Wreath Co. in Maine, is providing and delivering the wreaths free. Each wreath will have a bow and a card thanking the veteran for his or her service, Goerig said. The wreaths will be removed in the spring, he said.
For more information on the veteran remembrance ceremony contact Bill Snyder at the Ohio State University Extension Office at 330-533-5538 or visit mahoning.osu.edu.
Portraits sought for WWII exhibition
NEW ORLEANS
The Museum of Jewish Heritage’s award-winning exhibition, “Ours To Fight For: American Jews in the Second World War,” is on display at The National World War II Museum in New Orleans through April 24.
“Ours To Fight For” examines how the war was experienced by Jewish men and women who served in America’s military, on and off the battlefield, through the voices of soldiers and sailors, airmen and Marines, WACs and WAVEs presented in video, audio and as written “labels” drawn from more than 400 interviews conducted by the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
In an effort to honor Jewish World War II veterans, The National World War II Museum is seeking portraits of these veterans for display on a Wall of Honor during the run of the exhibit. For more information and portrait specifications, contact Curator Kim Guise at 504-528-1944, ext. 530. The museum requests that the public not mail or drop off portraits without first speaking to a curator.
