Watson first-graders are stars of Lunchbox Weather
Mrs. Manning’s students gathered in front of Mark Monstrola to say farewell to WFMJ viewers.
When the first-graders were on air, they were asked to wave to their families and parents watching. Erin Burke (front left) and Benjamin Piper( front right) had no problems waving excitedly.
WFMJ reporter Mark Monstrola (left) chatted with Reese Cotton (right) about thanksgiving and his favorite foods.
Olivia Stoner was excited to get pizza, punch, and pretzels for lunch, along with a plastic cup donated from Pizza Hut and WFMJ to take home.

One week before WFMJ’s Lunchbox Weather brought a free pizza lunch and a live television feed into Watson teacher Patty Manning’s first-grade class, she sent home a permission slip to parents. She wasn’t surprised that all of the permission slips for the Nov. 9 event came back with an emphatic “Yes!”
“After sending the slips out last Monday,” Manning said with a laugh, “every day since the kids have asked, ‘Is it today? Are we going to be on TV today?’ With all the excitement that they’re holding in, I’m just glad that they’re having recess right after, to burn off all that extra energy!”
After a torturous week of waiting, WFMJ reporter Mark Monstrola entered Watson with a live television camera and a smile. Monstrola talked with the students about their mornings before going live on Channel 21’s Midday News, where he reported the weather, and had a short chat about Thanksgiving with student Reese Cotton.
Olivia Stoner, munching on her free pizza, shared her excitement.
“This is the best thing that ever happened. It’s like a birthday party, but it’s nobody’s birthday!”
