CANTON — Ursuline is putting on an offensive clinic in the first half of its Division V state championship game against Coldwater.
The Fighting Irish, looking to earn their second perfect season in three years and third-straight state title, have scored six touchdowns on seven drives. The Cavaliers scored on their first drive — 49-yard pass from senior quarterback Ethan Bettinger to senior wideout Reese Klenke — but punted on five other drives, and Bettinger took a knee with 12 seconds left in the half.
The Fighting Irish totaled 473 yards of offense in the first half — 354 of those on the ground.
Senior tailback Akise Teague, who was awarded the prestigious Mr. Football title earlier this week, scored four touchdowns. He had three rushing scores — from 17, 46 and 65 yards out — and 192 yards on the ground at the intermission. He also had four receptions for 94 yards, including a 73-yard score from senior quarterback Paul Kempe.
The Cavaliers had 109 total yards at the half. They had eight yards on nine carries.
Teague has displayed the speed, athleticism and power that earned him the most coveted individual award in Ohio football. He’s run around, past and through anything in his way.
