Ursuline 15, Coldwater 7 after one quarter

CANTON — The first quarter has come to an end in the Division V state championship game at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium.

Ursuline scored two early touchdowns and takes a 15-7 lead into the second quarter. Senior quarterback Paul Kempe connected with Mr. Football Akise Teague on a 73-yard touchdown pass, and junior running back Jesse Curry pounded his way to a 53-yard touchdown run.

Coldwater scored on a 49-yard pass from senior quarterback Ethan Bettinger to senior wide receiver Reese Klenke.

But the Fighting Irish defense has stymied the Cavaliers on two drives.

Curry forced Coldwater to punt on a third-down sack of Bettinger. One drive later, senior linebacker Jordan Markota swatted down a third-down Bettinger pass.

Urusline has the ball as the second quarter begins.
