Fitch girls win season-opener

Freshman Megan Sefeik scored 22 points to lead the Fitch girls basketball team to a 60-49 victory over West Branch in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Falcons led 15-8 after one quarter and were in front 27-19 at the break.

Mariah Snowden scored 15 points and Erica Brxton added 11 points to give Fitch three players in double figures.

Girls bowling team tops Lake

The Fitch girls bowling team opened its season with a 2,697-2,164 victory over Federal League rival Lake on Nov. 29.

Freshman Katie Viglio led the way for the Lady Falcons with games of 237 and 204 and a 441 series. Senior Delorean Jones rolled 171 and 258 for a total of 429. Senior Vickie Berquist added a 229 game, senior Victoria Phelps rolled a 183 and senior Kristen Dota posted a 179.

Phantoms trade for forward Collins

The Youngstown Phantoms and coach Curtis Carr have announced the acquisition of forward Stephen Collins from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

In exchange for Collins, the Phantoms sent their fifth-round pick in this year’s USHL Entry Draft to Cedar Rapids.

Last season, Collins appeared in 40 games and recorded 15 points (8 goals and 7 assists).

Collins has played in 12 games for the RoughRiders, picking up two goals and three assists for a total of five points so far this season.

To make room for Collins forward Josef Pontasch was dropped from the Youngstown roster.
