Canfield JV wrestling event seeks teams

Canfield High School will host a JV pool-style wrestling tournament Jan. 22 at 10 a.m.

Lady Cards begin season with a victory

The Canfield girls varsity badketball team outscored Hubbard 22-15 in the second half to pull away for a 38-26 victory to open the 2010-11 season on Monday.

Sabrina Mangapora led the Cardinals’ offense with 13 points. Cally Wollet added seven points, including a 3-pointer. Kaitlin Kaleel, Abby Baker and Kellie Kesner each chipped in with four points.

Phantoms trade for forward Collins

The Youngstown Phantoms and coach Curtis Carr have announced the acquisition of forward Stephen Collins from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

In exchange for Collins, the Phantoms sent their fifth-round pick in this year’s USHL Entry Draft to Cedar Rapids.

Last season, Collins appeared in 40 games and recorded 15 points (8 goals and 7 assists).

Collins has played in 12 games for the RoughRiders, picking up two goals and three assists for a total of five points so far this season.

Golf course closed for the season

The Mill Creek Park Golf Course is now closed for the 2010 golfing season.

It will reopen in the spring of 2011, weather permitting.

The Pro Shop at the golf course will remain open for holiday shopping needs in December, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
