Fighting Irish offense humming, defense bringing the heat
Fighting Irish offense humming, defense bringing the heat
CANTON — One team is running like a well-oiled machine and the other is, well, a little rusty.
Ursuline seemingly can’t do anything wrong on either side of the ball. The offense extended the Fighting Irish lead to 30-7 on another long touchdown run by Division V Offensive Player of the Year Akise Teague.
Teague, lined up at quarterback in the team’s wildcat formation, took the direct snap from senior center Pete Wearsch, faked a handoff to his teammate in the backfield and bolted up the middle of the field for 65 yards. Some good blocking, including a good seal by senior tight end Jordan Markota, opened up the field for Teague.
The Fighting Irish defense is also playing efficiently.
Senior quarterback Ethan Bettinger is facing a lot of pressure from the Fighting Irish defensive front. And when he has time, the secondary is blanketing the Cavalier receivers, including go-to guy Reese Klenke.
