Beaver Township residents are invited to enjoy a simple holiday ceremony Sunday.

The annual tree lighting begins at 3 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, at state Routes 164 and 165.

“It’s kind of basic, but we enjoy it. The South Range high school choir will perform, the township firetruck will bring Santa Claus in to town, and there are refreshments,” said Scott Conway, park administrator.

The tree for the fourth annual celebration was donated by a township family on Garfield Road, Conway said.

“This event is something that we decided needed to be done, because we didn’t have a township celebration welcoming in the holidays. It’s gone over pretty well,” Conway said.

Trustee Ted Lyda said the ceremony is a way to bring everyone together.

“We’re a very close-knit, church-oriented community, and it always involves everybody that’s in the church and school,” he said.

Although there might not be a lot of fanfare, Lyda said, the message shows through.

“It just brings the Christmas season. Instead of a parade that other communities have, we just have the tree-lighting ceremony,” he said.

The event is free, and parking will be available across the street at the township building, Conway said, adding that all are welcome.

“We still get children of all ages,” Conway said.
