Akise Teague breaks record with score

CANTON — Akise Teague broke a Division V state record, and tied a state record for all divisions, by scoring his fifth touchdown late in the third quarter of Saturday’s title game.

Teague rumbled in from 42 yards out to give him his fourth rushing score of the game. He also caught a swing pass, which he turned into a 73-yard score for the game’s first points.

Teague joins Bo Delande of Hilliard Davidson (Div. I, 2006) and Ursuline’s Delbert Ferguson (Div. IV, 2000) in scoring five total touchdowns in the championship game. Another score on the ground would tie Teague with Delande for most rushing scores in the title game. It would also give him the outright record for most touchdowns in the game for all divisions.

The Irish have the ball at the start of the fourth quarter.
